Periodontal evaluation sounds like a big term, but at Scripps Poway Dental Care in San Diego, CA, we like to break things down for our patients. We understand that dentistry seems complicated, but once the scientific words are simplified, they are much easier to understand.
Periodontal exams include assessing the patient’s teeth, gums, jaws, and plaque. Having a dentist near you that can manage your exams is essential to great dental health. At Scripps Poway Dental Care, you can rest assured that our team will perform your exam with great efficiency while keeping you comfortable. Thanks to years of experience, our staff knows how to be thorough and do what’s best for patients.
Comprehensive exams are longer and more detailed. A comprehensive exam will be required in new patients or ones that we haven’t seen in two or more years. Patients will be asked a few questions about their medical and dental histories before being examined. During the exam, dental mobility, bite, plaque, and the presence of inflammation or pockets will be assessed. Most patients will also require x-rays because they provide us with additional information.
Based on all of these findings, a treatment plan will be created and tailored specifically for your needs. Later on, comprehensive exams won’t be needed as we will already have all the required information regarding your dental status.
Limited exams are recommended annually. We want our patients to continue to have excellent dental health. If you need to visit a dentist in San Diego, CA, for an emergency or a dental issue, we’d be happy to take care of it for you.
Unlike comprehensive consultations where we assess every area of the mouth, limited consultations are focused. Based on the findings from your dental exam and possible dental x-rays, we’ll create a treatment plan. Treatment might begin in the same appointment or be scheduled for later. If treatment doesn’t start immediately, we’ll make sure you remain comfortable until it does.
We’re here to keep your teeth in great shape and improve your dental health.
